Can someone explain to me wtf people do solid windshield banners on race cars?

Maybe they sit low enough that they can see. Also it means if you are driving into the sun it acts as a sun visor without having to take your hand off the wheel or shifter.

The top few inches of windshield dont really get used on most tracks except at the end of the day when the sun gets in your eyes. Ive occasionally put painters tape over my helmet visor and used it the same way in late afternoon sun.

In some cases they are perforated, printed on the outside, and black on the inside. From the outside you see a banner. From the inside the driver can see out. The glare is cut because it's like looking through a lot of small apertures.
You've probably seen similar the on the side of busses or fast food windows. My neighbor installs them for the Tudor Cup cars if you are interested.
