Default crazy loud whining from OS Giken LSD

I've been tracking a car I picked up last year that had an OS Giken LSD in it. It whines like hell at a volume loud enough that I can't talk comfortably, but doesn't drive abnormally or anything. You know that old Ciara song Goodies, with the whining in the background? The song came on the radio and I couldn't hear it because it's the same frequency.

I also have innovative engine, trans, and differential mounts with black or grey inserts (harder durometer I believe).

Is this normal and has anyone done anything to alleviate it? Would changing the diff mounts help? What mounts do people like to use these days?

When I had an OS Giken set up for STR installed in my S2000, I don't remember it sounding any different than the stock differential. I would check the fluid level first and go from there.

I have an OSG diff and it doesn't whine like that. Could be an issue with the ring and pinion. The OSG diff fluid is extremely thick, 80W-250. You should drain it over a screen and look for debris, then refill with the recommended fluid.

I've talked to an expert about it, it seems likely that the LSD isn't what's making noise but the final drive or the solid pinion spacer...I think I'll try putting stock or spoon/megan diff mounts and see if it helps it enough to be more tolerable for street driving.

You should spend your money and time addressing the whining issue, not covering up the symptoms. If the ring and pinion are worn out or not meshing properly it's much better to catch it now then have it fail and damage the LSD too.

Although I don't run a OS Giken I experienced the similar sound/issue after doing a hard 1-2 shift on my kaaz diff. I damaged the ring/pinion and had it refreshed by puddymod. This is a video of my symptoms

mine is a constant sound that changes pitch with RPM, doesnt change with or without load. it's also like the high pitched sound of straight cut gears instead of what kind of sounds like the whirring in your video

sounds like it's the harder trans/diff mounts, not the os giken.

A buddy with an Evo X had similar noises. Sounded like straight cut gears with the noise level increasing with vehicle speed. His rear diff was toast. Replaced and it was all good. The previous owner may have not done proper maintanence and destroyed the OS Giken.

In my S2k, I have Hasport engine and diff mounts. Engine mounts did nothing to increase rear diff noise. The diff mounts MAYBE very slightly tiny bit increased rear diff noise; I installed the diff mounts after the engine mounts. Your issue is far more severe.
