Cool. The thing that is confusing me is that from the little reading I've done so far, it seems like you can't set the start/finish market without the car moving. So lets say I roll into the hot pits before going on track. When/how do you ensure you place the start/finish point at the desired location?

Also, do people typically already have pre-loaded maps of the track in the G2X or are they all created during on-track driving. I suppose I can wait until I read more of the instruction book, but hadn't seen the answers after the first 10 pages or so.

I put my G2X datalogger underneath the passenger seat secured by heavy duty double-sided tape. It is slightly annoying to access the card, but it is manageable. Since my car is a daily driver and my interior is intact, I prefer to have the unit out of sight.

Since we're on this topic, where is the best place to buy a Racepak g2x? Links? I prefer buying a used one but they seem to be hard to find and I might run out of patience soon.

I bought mine today off ebay. I have also found a few other used ones over the last week or so:

This guy is asking $750. It's been for sale for awhile. I would offer $600-$650 most and believe he'd take it. I was in communication with him and he was open to offers. Can give you his e-mail if interested.

This guy is asking $550 for a newer red version. I was worried that it would come incomplete, so I would ask for a picture of all included before buying. He was waiting to hear back from one person on the site before letting me know if it was still for sale.

This one is virtually brand new and asking $750.

Hope that helps.

I do it on end of the first lap, usually. S/F is usually located on a straight. If you get the display into "set S/F" mode before you start the first lap, then all you have to do is push one button as you are crossing the line. (This is only for the purpose of the in-car display. It doesn't affect the data analysis. Sometimes I don't even bother setting the start/finish at the track, if I don't care to look at my lap times.)

Track maps are generated and stored in the analysis software. The datalogger does not use track maps at all. They are part of the post-processing.

I bought mine from Racepak. There really were not any used G2Xs available back then.

You should know that there are two generations of the G2X. The older hardware is the "black" hardware, which uses compact flash. The newer hardware is the "red" hardware, which uses SD cards. Racepak still supports both.

You obviously didn't read the rest of the thread. I already bought a G2X with the regular dash display, but appreciate the offer.

I do plan to look into buying a set of your wheels when they're available as an extra set of race wheels.
