Default Expanding foam alternative for sealing after bolt-in rollbar

Hey guys, I installed my Ballade Sports bar a few days ago, but haven't sealed up the chassis where you're required to cut for backing plates. It seems like everyone talks about using expanding foam, but from what I know about that stuff it holds moisture and will likely lead to rusting eventually. Am I wrong about this? Is there a better alternative if I don't have access to a welder? Thanks.

I made a post in one of the roll bar threads with an alternative method a few years ago.

I cut out a cover plate from ABS plastic and fixed it in place with urethane seam sealer. Blends right in with the wheel well and no messy foam.

I recommend black silicone adhesive sealant - it can be a pain to install depending on the amount of material you removed (huge gaps are difficult to fill). When completely dry, it is very stiff and gets the job done.

If you use the foam then seal over nicely with under carriage paint...what's there to worry about?

I painted over with undercoat spray as well. I decided to just seal it up and not put foam in for ease of future removal, considering the roll bar is a stop-gap until I need a full cage.
