First Track Day at Thunderhill... Spun out at 100MPH
#11
I think the first order of business is for you, not us, to analyze the cause of your spin. That mean understanding why you spun so you can avoid doing the same thing in the future. So you have to categorize the spin. I can’t remember all the variations, but you have throttle oversteer, brake oversteer, trailing brake oversteer, etc. My impression is that you lifted at turn in - ever so slightly - so trailing brake oversteer with the engine doing the braking, maybe only 50 rpm. You need to be on throttle in the corner. Remember Taruffi. Whatever you do, don’t lift in the corner! Just my 2 cents. Cheers.
Looks like you went in too hot and tried to lift to slow down but by doing that you unsettled the rear end and that caused it to oversteer/spin. Keep steady throttle in corners.

I hadn't been thinking about the subject matter of spins for quite some time and was away from home and on an I-Phone when I wrote post #10. I should have done a little better in trying to name the spin. To set the record straight, I think it was a trailing throttle oversteer as opposed to a trailing brake oversteer.
Here's an example where you can hear him lift.
Perhaps I'm in a minority, but my point for the OP is that you really need to understand why you spun and what were the vehicle dynamics involved. You were on a nice open track, but next time you may be in a tighter spot with walls on both sides. Or another car may be bearing down on you as you are stalled in the corner. Other than possibly as an educational experience, there is nothing good about driving so out of control that you spin.
