I'm just about to mount my Kumhos and I've got a question regarding heat cycling. If I drive for 20 highway miles or so will that be sufficient to get the job done? Should I do it twice? Naturally I want to do whats best for the tires.

I thought the 100 mile regiment was a ritual by some teams but all it really takes is a thorough heat soak through flexing (driving) and then a complete cooling.

100 miles seems like a long way to go, I think they can get hot sooner than that. Depending upon ambient temp and speed it seems like you can have them fully hot in less than twenty miles. If you are gonna go racing a day or two later I don

Thanks for the information. Although my drive home, is about 20 miles, I think it would be better to try for an evening when i can take them off the car to cool. Afterall, I'd hate to park it on the cold concrete of the driveway and have that alter the rate of cooling in some fashion. We have an autocross this weekend, hopefully I'll get back at the 911 and the TT which beat me last month!

Thanks guys, I guess i need to do this tomorrow night or they won't be able to "rest" for te 48 hours recommended before our sunday autox.

Two questions arise: 1) How hot should they get? 2) What about even heating across the face of the tire. We've got -1.6 up front and -2.6 in the back. In regular highway driving my streets seem to be about 5-6 degrees cooler on the outside edges (20 mile mostly highway drive). Should I consider some "gentle" circles in a parking lot somewhere to get some heat in the edges or am I needlessly obsessing over small temp differences?

It is my understanding that the heat generated from normal rotation under load is sufficient and that worrying about surface temp is not necessary.. but then again my experience with this comes from a
