How to convert toe in inch to degrees ?

The recommended auto-X alignment setting for rear toe is 1/4" to 3/8". How much is that in degrees  What is the formula to convert it ?
I did some calculation assuming it's measured at the lip of the rim. That came out to 1.7 degrees equals 1/4 inches. Where are the mathmaticians that teach "trigonometry for autocrossers" :D

Search for "toe degrees" in the search this forum box at the bottom. Been discussed many times. The quick and simple answer is deg/2 = inches. Tho the -actual- calculation is more involved than that if you care about 4 digit resolution.

It's simple math. Numerator divided my denominator.

1/4"
convert to decimal
1 divided by 4 = .25

1/8"
converted to decimal
1 divided by 8 = .125

1/16"
converted to decimal
1 divided by 16 = .0625

Oh BTW, most alignment machines will do both. I say most, buy maybe all as I haven't seen on that doesn't do both.

Thanks Krazik, I found the thread that had the formula to calculate the degrees:
sin toe [degrees] = toe [inch] / tire diameter [inch]

For example: 1/4'' = 0.58 degrees

E-Z, I think you should check your alignment :D Your math is off by factor 2.

ahhh.... I guess I misinterpreted your question. LOL

Like I said. degrees/2 = inch ;)

thank you finally someone who got it right!!! A lot more invovled than most think.

Sorry to bump an dead thread but if you search for "toe degrees" this thread comes up. Just thought I would post a table of toe in degrees and inches for stock S2000 sized tires (24.9 inches) and save people the trouble of busting out the old scientific calculator:

Toe in Inches = Toe in Degrees
1/16 = .14
1/8 = .29
3/16 = .43
1/4 = .58
5/16 = .72
3/8 = .86

Also the above 'simple' formula is a bit off. It is much more accurate with 2.3 instead of 2 as the magic number:
Toe in Inches * 2.3 = Toe in Degrees
Toe in Degrees / 2.3 = Toe in Inches

This is an old thread but Google brings it up for "convert toe degrees to inches" so I thought I'd link to two calculators I put online. The web page calculators will convert toe inches to degrees and convert toe angle to inches at 1 wheel or total toe for the axle. You input the tire diameter and toe to get an answer:

Convert Toe Inches to Degrees: http://robrobinette....esToDegrees.htm

Convert Toe Angle to Inches: http://robrobinette....eesToInches.htm

The Shop Manual 0.25 inch rear total toe = 0.29 degrees per wheel or 0.58 total rear toe-in with the stock size tires.
