How many track days - RE71R
hi,
I didn’t see any recent thread on this topic on S2ki. How many track days do these tires last and on what alignment settings? Any significant wear at all if only drivig to track?
I would like to get 8+ days out of them. I understand firsr 3-4 days provide best grip, but 4 more days of hpde would be great. How many laps or minutes before getting greasy?
Thanks

They're a pretty soft compound. I flip them on the rims after two or three days and can probably get another 2-3 days out of them. Due to the rain grooves the short, middle tread block wears down the quickest. The RE71s are great but I'd jump to the NT01s if they made them in AP2 stagger. You will not wear them down driving to the track as long as your alignment is in check.
I've been playing with my alignment throughout the course of their use (I've done 8-10 days on the 71s) but in a nutshell I run zero toe front, minimal toe rear, and max camber - these tires like 3+ degrees.

1-2 events for peak performance if you drive it to and from the track and are trying to be competitive for time trials. A lot of socal time attack guys that compete in street tire classes literally get new tires every event. Gotta pay to play.

I found they got really hot on track the first few 32nds, but now I have trouble getting heat in them. They are definitely very soft though. I don't know that they would get as greasy hot now that they are half worn. Great tire overall though!
It really depends on heat, but I have about half tread left and that is with 5 AutoX events and a test and tune that we did 40+ laps with and about 800 street miles. They seem to do fine, but thats a matter of opinion I guess.... Don't know about 8 days... Really depends on how long the lapping sessions are. 4 fifteen minute sessions would probably burn off the first quarter. The rest may last several more days.

I get them to last quite a while. I did 7 days at Sebring and 3 days at Road Atlanta and had plenty of tread left. I run them 26psi cold. My car doesn't see a ton of street time and is on a trailer to and from the track.
Everyone is going to be a little different on the wear and the track does make somewhat of a difference on wear.

I've run about 8 sets in the last few years. They last about 10 hours. The first hr they are a little squirmy and slower. Then they are rock solid till the end. I haven't had them overheat on track, but I don't run in real hot temps typically. I've found them to be very durable. Certainly the best 200tw tire out there right now for speed in wet or dry.

I did time attack and a bit of track days on my set of 245/40-17s on 17x8s. Got 11 track days out of them in total + 800 miles on the road. By the 9-10th day they were getting a little too worn for max cornering speed but was still consistent. Ran most of the days in 65-75 F weather.

I totally disagree. I use it for HPDE and absolutely love it. Constant grip for the full 30 minutes. I run HPDE3 with NASA and white group with the PCA
