Default How often for caliper replacement?

i am horrible at routine maintance. I change fluids, brake pads and rotors when they are needed and pretty much ignore the rest.

What shoud I look for on my calipers? If replacing i assume getting someone's used street calipers would be fine since they have not been subject to track abuse.?

Do you guys have a little schedule that you use ?

#__ track days = ________
#__ track days = ________

my right side calipers are all original, left side are 1 full year of tracking.

Hey Scot, I would just rebuild them using the kit available at Hardtopguy... the calipers themselves should be more than ok... Just check the piston seals for holes or rips and make sure the sliders are not siezed.

Front: http://hardtopguy.com/store/product.php?pr...&cat=100&page=1
Rear: http://hardtopguy.com/store/product.php?pr...&cat=100&page=1

You would obviously need two of each.

Rebuilding calipers is a freaking pain in the ass. Brake fluid everywhere, little parts that do not want to cooperate etc.

I just get reman calipers from the dealer and exchange my old ones for a discount.

In terms of when to replace, just do a thorough visual inspection of the condition of the rubber boots and seals. I would say every other season as a general rule depending on how many days you are running per season.

Huh. I've never replaced my calipers. I did rebuild the front ones about four years ago, and it was a pain in the ass.

Who has any evidence that the calipers need to be rebuilt/replaced unless you find them leaking?

And the fronts are much easier to rebuild than the rears! TubeDriver has the best recommendation.

i know my front boots are cracked but I have ignored it.... I think in general I have ignored things that I shouldn't.

I am all for buying new/used ones vs trying to rebuild... i suck at wrenching (and driving)...

just rebuilt my fronts, and unless I did something wrong, I found it to be an easy rewarding way to spend a few hours. It wasn't much of an issue at all. The rebuild kit has labeled lubricants.

The fronts are not bad if you have an air compressor or another easy way to remove the piston. The rears are a pain in the butt, though, due to the parking brake.

If the fronts are easy then rebuld them, for the rears go re-man. With a re-man though you will get a 3/36 warranty, a rebuild you wont so if it did go bad later the rebild kit wouldn't be worth the time or money.
