Launch for ap1
Hey guys I'll be getting in the 1/4 soon here. I jus wanted to know where should I be launching at. I've practiced launching at 5500 there's little wheel spin when I dump the clutch. It will get a good jump then rpm will go down a little and then go. Tips and help please
Just so you know our cars are not meant to be launched and the way you are practicing you are going to break your differential.
I know as I have broken 2 diffs already before I shelled out the month to install a R200 diff from inline pro. I can only tell you I really advise against drag racing and launching your car unless you upgrade your diff, be careful.
Another factor I learned this year is prep level. I drove Marc's BSP car at Lincoln and street launched it and it's 0-60' time was fantastic!

You'll break your diff if it hooks immediately, but with a little spin you'll be fine, as it minimizes the load spike on engagement.
Like CKit says, it's hugely dependent on surface, temp, and tires. I prefer to start at 7+ because it rarely hooks that high, and work my way down until I get just enough spin to stay in the powerband (my experience is autox specific- at a strip you may have to start higher if the pad is sticky).
The S2k's not an ideal drag car, but props for starting down the competition path!

The gears are fine. The carrier bearing end caps are the weakest link in the diff, it begins to flex over time from the jolt. As it flexes it pulls the ring and pinion apart and then you snap teeth and bam! The Ap2 diff is substantially more reliable over the long term I have found, it will take more abuse I assume because Honda helped correct the problem by adding thicker end caps over the ap1. Personally Ive blown up two ap1 diffs but still on my Ap2. The end cap upgrade is basically the first level 1 upgrade you can do to the diff. I haven't needed with the ap2 so far, and its got a lot of boosted miles on it. Bellow are some examples of the part modification I mentioned.
