Is it necessary to rebed track pads after commuting?
I have a set of street pads/rotors and track pads/rotors that I usually swap between track days, but I got lazy last month and have been commuting with track setup recently. Do I need to/should I rebed the pads before I get on the track this weekend?

I drive my car to and from the track and occasionally on the weekends. Brakes feel good to me with no problems at all. Been doing it for 4-5yrs now. So to answer your question. No you don't need to.

Yes you definitely should without a doubt.

It's a good practice, but usually a decent run in the 1st session re-beds them pretty quickly.

Yet, I have been commuting to the track on track pads for the past 2-3 years and have had no issues so far. I would also agree that after a good first session, the pads should re-bed themselves. |
Some pads are more sensitive to proper bedding than others, that is why you find answers on both ends of the spectrum.

I've always just gone out for the first session and you can feel them get bedded in by the end of the session. I always take it a little easier on the first few laps anyway.

I agree that you can bed them in session 1 if you are willing to basically "waste" that session. Personally, I live on a country road and bed them the night before the event in like 10 minutes so its worth it not to have to mess with it on track.

I too swap pads between track and street. At the track I usually just go easy for the first part of the first session and it takes care of bedding. For me, I'm really not giving anything up as I'd go easy for the first few laps anyway to get everything up to temp including the driver :) But I found some pads can deposit unevenly if I started braking too hard too soon and the result feels like a warped disk (pulsing pedal and judder). The Hawk DTC60s seemed more susceptible to this. I'm currently running Raybestos ST43 and they have never done this, but I'm also more careful now not to brake too hard in the first part of that first session. So it's up to you - ideally you'd bed before the track, but otherwise take it easy in the first session and with most pads you should be ok.
