Default oil cooler - will it do anything for me?

I was thinking that many track days in the hot cali summer will take it's toll on the F20C. I have an oil cooler that will fit on the car and was thinking of replacing my AEM w/ a PRM and making brake ducts and a duct to feed my oil cooler (not installed yet).

Is it worth installing the oil cooler or would it cause a drop in pressure/increase in weight the would nullify the benefit of lower oil temp/increased longevity of the motor?

Those that have monitored temps find that only during hot laps does that coolant temp keep the thermostat wide open, and it drops as soon as the load drops. The oil temps follow, being marginally higher than you would like under heavy loads and cooling to normal pretty quickly. With the factory water / oil cooler it would seem that a slightly larger radiator for coolant would reduce both peaks and be all that is needed for peace of mind (and debatable if needed at all).

Interesting.

What is the ideal oil temperature?

I'm going to be adding an oil cooler and would like to know.

Thanks in advance.

I would think temps around 225 F would be a good start, nothing more than 270 F

212 = 100, so 270 is around 140???

Yes, 270 F = ~132 C. The post indicates Fahrenheit, why are you trying to convert? The post is right, 225 is a good target and 270 F is clearly very high with 240 - 250 F being more of what you would expect under heavy loads with warm ambient temps.

I would suspect the F20C oil temps get well above 250f during 20-minute track sessions on 90+ degree-days. In my Prelude, which has a oil temp gauge I run in the 270-290 range on hot days and it has a factory water/oil cooler almost identical to the S2000.
Do you have an oil temp gauge cdelena?

No I have monitored coolant temps on the track and know mine range from 190 - 200 F, and know that those with both gauges say the oil runs 40 - 50 F higher.

We have seen reports from those with an oil temp gauge that track temps stabilize at about 250 F.
