Pyrometer
Thinking of getting a cheap pyrometer from Harbor Freight. What temperature range would cover most any temps I would see? Their cheapest non-contact thermometer goes from Fahrenheit (-27

That should cover you as far as temperature range is concerned, but most measuring tools are usually pretty non-linear at the extremes of their scale.
To get useful data you really should be using a probe type pyrometer. |
Do not get a surface type Pyrometer. Get a PROBE type as E_N stated.
The cheapest probe-type pyrometer from Longacre i believe is $99 -I would just go with that one. |

Also check eBay...I snagged the AccuTech probe pyrometer for about $40.
