I'll never tell ;-)

But he was the one asking me more details about it :-) So I decided to collect my thoughts and make this post!

I'm a little concerned about the location of the catch cans. If for some reason they overflow and oil starts dripping from the breather filters onto the hot headers you could catch fire. I had this happen to me with very similar setup (saikou michi cans with breather filters), fortunately my car didn't catch fire just smoked a lot until the oil evaporated from the headers.

A possible solution for track only cars is to return the oil back to the oil pan with a check valve from the drain of the catch cans but for street driven cars you wouldn't want to do that.

No problem guys! I finally saw the massive blue death cloud in front of me from an S2000 at turn 10, and it brought all of my old miserable thoughts back into mind so I made this post (this issue made me lose 3k from having to buy a new engine)

A loop back to the oil pan is not a bad idea. To some it may be an easier way to try and solve the issue, but there is only one way to 100% solve the issue, and that is with the valve cover modification.
If you eliminate the oil from being able to come out of the valve cover, it will not matter where you put the catch can.

Thanks for this write up. FYI, the guy who did most of the original research on modifying the valve covers was long time member MACR88

Again, thanks for the great write up. It has been discussed before, but nobody did such a great step by step.

So, since you've done this, have you been to the track, and if so, any oil in your catch cans?

And, if no oil in your catch cans, what are your thoughts of just not having any catch cans and plumbing your PCV and breather vents and hoses normally (I assume the SC has a spot to plug the breather line in?)?

You know, moderators, if this is considered the correct and direct solution to the problem of oil into the intake at the track, and there really isn't any controversy about it, this thread should really be a sticky.

It's a really good DIY and it solves the problem directly, rather than indirectly, such as catch cans.

Mods?

Has anyone just tried running an 04-05 valve cover? I have one on order and will report as soon as the next track day shows up.

I also read that using a nail to get the holes where they need to be is much safer than drilling. Just throwing that out there.
