Default Registering a trailer

I just bought a Harbor and feight utility trailer to use as a tire trailer. Question is when I go to the DMV to register it do I have to bring the trailer with me? Do they just need paper work or are they actually going to inspect it.

I would take it since they may want to stamp an identification number on it.

I took mine with me, and they did inspect it. The inspector did suggest that I stamp the VIN into the metal, since the VIN was on a thin metal plate which would be easy for a thief to remove.

Maybe put a bicycle flag on the trailer if you don't have the tire rack and storage bin installed yet. An old lady rear-ended mine at a traffic light because "it was too hard to see". She had crept up behind me so that she could no longer see the trailer, then forgot it was there when the light turned green.
