Figured you guys would find this useful.

Differential? Those are heavy, and at least the ring gear is on a significant radius. Reciprocating weight in the engine?

As shown, crank and driveshaft have too small a radius to have significant inertia, although a lightweight crank often gets weight off the nose of the car. The engine parts, including the flywheel, are rotating at 3 to 12 times the speed of the wheels.

While inertia is interesting, what is of concern for acceleration and braking is the power consumed changing the energy stored in the components. At lower speeds, the car is accelerating faster and the inertia consumes more power. At higher speeds, where there is more energy stored and more aero drag, the lower rates of acceleration consume less power.

I have been thinking about this, because I have an AP2 and have 100k on the original clutch. I feel like I'm on borrowed time at this point. Interesting to see the difference of the AP2 vs AP1 flywheel. I race in STR and this is not a legal mod though. I never race at nationals level events and don't plan to, so I could get away with this locally, as I never have anyone directly competing with me. I just can't decide if its really worth it, but this gives me the info to decide! It's really a no cost mod if you are replacing it anyways.

I love the AP1 flywheel just from a driving feel point of view. The downshifts are more fun/easier to execute with the lighter flywheel. Upshifts are better when driving aggressively and shifting quickly.
