Running 17x9 square with no aero

Run the biggest front bar you can get your hands on and if necessary run a NC MX-5 front bar on the rear.
That will be a good start. Choose your spring rates and alignment settings to your taste.
I'm running FA510s with 14/12 kg/mm spring rates, a custom Gendron style front bar, AP2 rear bar, camber limited -2 F/-2.7R, toe 0F, 1/8" in per side R, MY '00 with 255 square. Used to run a MX-5 bar in the rear but I like the car a little more lively.

I ran 17x9 square on my car for years, without aero, stock sway bars, and eibach springs w/ stock shocks. Mind you, this was an AP2 with the euro spec alignment.
I didn't have a problem, ran this setup to a 1:46 at Laguna and a 1:57 at ACS with RS3s, and it wasn't a handful.

I ran two sets of 17x9 square wheels on an ap1, both with a fat front sway, stock rear sway, and H&R's. I was able to do a comparison with a low mileage, stock and mint ap1 to feel the handling differences and my setup felt more neutral than a stock s2000, even at my driving limits (which is fairly low, mind you. I'm no Tsuchiya..). I think most of that was thanks to the front sway.

I added a Saner to my AP2 and dropped a second off my best at SMMR.

STR setup: Karcepts front and back, Swift Spec R on CR shocks, and square AP2V1s. The car feels very nimble and neutral and it can rotate still, you just have to push it into doing so.
Edit for apples and apples:
FSB is at 1070 lb/in
RSB is at 166 lb/in
Springs are (F/R) 420/392 lb/in
Alignment:
F -3.0 Camber 6.0 Caster
R -2.7 Camber 0.28* total Toe in

With this type of talk i think "fat front sway" needs to be specific. Some "fat" bars are not much stiffer than oem while others are 5x stiffer.
That said, when i tried 245s all around on on ap2 sized wheels and stock front and rear sway, my car was a handful at the limit where it was a sideways machine. The comptech bar at about 900lb per inch on full stiff made the non stagger much more oem feeling and livable.
Ill be going stiffer front and less rear now that i changed spring rates.
Always something to tinker with.
