Auto-xers from this season have reported similar results with the RE-71R.

I believe all the winners/top finishers were on the RE-71R. If you weren't on the RE-71R, you weren't competitive...

As far as the schedule, no Buttonwillow at the end of January to start the season?
Buttonwillow at the end of January has been a rain dance the last few years, although heavily attended.

Thoughts on starting ACS vs BW?
In regards to the 71rs, what if they were ranked equally with nt01s, and the RC1S and the competitor can choose which tire to go with. And while this may not be popular, if we did have a spec tire and everyone used it, I would think that would give us greater barging power with group buys as well as eliminate the tire drama. Since the competition is against one another and not achieving a PB, a tire that would last longer could be utilized to help save $$$.

We have reached out to a few tire manufactures and have proposed discounts or a tire contingency program. If anyone has some contacts they'd like to share please PM me and we will send our proposal out.

Dustin, let me know what you have worked out. I have plenty of my own contacts I might be able to help with, but I don't want to interfere with whatever you might already have going on.

A spec tire would be great, but forces people to buy tires they might not really need right now.

Looks like NASA PT/TT rules are up and the Rival-S and RE71R have been assigned equal points to the NT01 and a smidge under TD's

A. TIRES:
1) The following DOT-approved R-compound tires: BFG R1S, Goodyear Eagle RS AC (auto-cross), Hoosier A7, Hankook Z214 (C90 & C91 compounds only), Hoosier Wet DOT (if used in dry conditions see section 5.6) +22
2) The following DOTapproved Rcompound tires: Hoosier A6 +17
3) The following DOTapproved Rcompound tires and those with a UTQG treadwear rating of 40 or less not listed other wise in these rules: BFG R1, Goodyear Eagle RS, Hankook Z214 (C71, C70, C51, C50), Hoosier R7, Kumho V710 +10
4) The following DOTapproved Rcompound tires: Hoosier SM7 +9
5) The following DOTapproved Rcompound tires: Hoosier R6, Hoosier SM6 (note: Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge ECDry tires (225, 245, 275) OK) +8
6) The following DOTapproved Rcompound tires: Toyo Proxes RR, Hankook TD, Pirelli Trofeo R +7
7) The following DOTapproved tires and those Rcompound tires with a UTQG treadwear rating over 40: BFG Rival S, Bridgestone RE071R, Maxxis RC1 (examples: Kumho V700, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup & MPS Cup 2, Nitto NT01, Pirelli PZero Corsa, Toyo R888, Toyo RA1, Yokahama A048, etc.) +6
8) DOTapproved (nonRcompound) tires with a UTQG treadwear rating of 200 (examples: BFG gForce Rival, Toyo R1R, Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec, Bridgestone Potenza RE070, Kumho Ecsta XS, Yokohama Advan A046 & Neova AD08, Hankook RS3) +2
9) NonDOTapproved racing slicks +30 (of any origin--recaps and retreads are not permitted)

Interesting new rule change. So is the extra +4 worth the time gained on an RE71R?

After driving on both the RE71R (albeit for 1 day) and the NT01's I can say they are on par with overall grip and lap times at Buttonwillow.

I'm curious how long they will last, the NT01's can go 5 days competitively.

I'm curious about that as well.

If the RE-71R is only good for 3 days, then I'd rather pick up NT-01s. That said, I'll be running on some uncompetitive RE-11a and on some 2 year old ZII - no budget for tires next year. I just want to drive - only got one track day this year.

As for the track schedule - i'll see you guys at Chuckwalla hopefully. I'm going to try to get a warm up track day between now and then. No ACS for me - I stopped running that track quite a while ago.

If given maybe 2 more sessions on the RE71R to dial in tire pressures and learn the tire better, I would have shaved another 1.5 seconds easily at BW13CW. The RE71R is fast and definitely feels like there is more grip than RS3s. 86CUP puts a 2pt penalty on them and that's big enough to completely throw a car into a different class (makes sense).

Overall the new tires are getting pretty quick. Are there ways to enforce weight to make sure everyone makes the weight requirement?

Car weight comes into play and I don't think we have seen anyone going over the deep end in the lower classes where you could be under weight. Could someone be under by 50lbs? Potentially, but I'd say anyone on championship podiums are at weight. I am over by at least 100lbs. I wonder where I could find those extra lbs??? Lol!!

There is no way the re71 is as fast as the nt01.

If that's the case, I'll stick with nt01s lol. I think most of us will prefer that.

And stick with rs3s for street tires, too bad they are gone till next year.
