They ran their 1:43.2 during practice in the morning and then did a 1:44.3 during their time attack session #2. Wicked fast car. I will say though, you can't compare it to the HKS time. HKS came to BW never having driven the track before. Laid down the 1:43 within a few laps and packed their bags. Lets not forget that HKS was not using slicks either...
If I recall, SSE was using Hankook tires (not 'true racing slicks' -even though they are just as fast if not faster than most 'true racing slicks').

The Hankooks are very comparable to the A048 GS compound tires HKS was using in terms of size and performance.

I would counter with the fact that SSE has only been playing with street cars for ONE year now. How long has HKS been tuning street cars? Street cars are a whole different animal than Formula cars which is where SSE came from.

Also, SSE has been using different drivers, and the last time they were at Buttonwillow, it was the driver's first time there.
With the amount of resources they have, it would be SURPRISING if they couldn't hit 1:43 by now...

Billy, I'm not familiar with the Hankook tires that SSE runs on and can only go off of what I've heard from others. From what I've heard, they're similar to Yoko A0005 as far as performance goes but only lasts 3-5 laps. If thats the case, it should be a level above A048 GS compound.

Daryl, we did 1:47.9 with the Yoko slick on our evo.

I think there is still room for development. Looks like they are still running a relatively narrow wheel. Plus much to my amazment they are using APR wing?! Def room for improvement there.

But I can defiently see where stinky is coming from. All solid state electronics, dynamic suspensions, pretty sure the HKS isn't using such motorsport grade components. Looking forward to seeing these two teams duking it out in Australia.

Tim, congrats on 47, that's cookin!

No worries. Thanx for posting these. Are you going to start a thread for the other pics?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they did that 43.2 in practice on Hankooks, either that or they were doing 43.5's the day earlier on Hankooks.

The Hankooks, A048GS and A005 are all very close in time.

Yeah, I took a few other shots, but they suck. Didn't have a DLSR with me. I'll post them up tonight.

Would HKS have a competitive advantage using A005 over A048?

Spdracerut: I know what you're saying but your analogy is a bit over stretched. If you know how to build formula cars, you know how to build a race car. And if you don't, it won't take long to figure out. I'm sure they have a few guys on there that have built track cars before like the guy from Cosworth who was the previous owner of XS engineering. So, its not like they are coming into this blindly.

Theres another point to your statement too. Because they have so many resources, they are able to come out with something new everyday. There is only so much $$ in the bank account.

As my previous post said, its hard to say.

For these 3-lap 'sprints', the A005, A048GS, and C91 Hankook are all very competitive -having back to backed A048 GS to A005, and A005 to USED C91s on the same car.

I would say you will see an advantage of the A005 over a 20 lap race over said tires which would overheat, blister, and fall off, but for the time attack arena, Racing slicks take longer to get up to temp and to generate the grip out of the box which the C91 and A048 GS are designed to do.

I would welcome them to try the A005s
