Splitter APR vs wood

Looking to add my first splitter, opinions on buying something like APR vs mounting brackets/rods and making my own from wood?

Really depends on what your needs are. If you have a small wing you may not need a crazy diffuser so you could get away with APR. Making your own takes more time and some more skill but it does let you customize it to your needs. Also when you make your own you can make a template so that when you end up wrecking it you can easily and cheaply remake another one. Use birch, its light and strong.

Splitters are a disposable. Use a decent bracket to mount that will release when needed. Plywood and have a template like ^ said.

I was planning to use a devsport mount with 4 support rods. It seems pretty sturdy so I'm not sure about release when needed.

i bought mounts made by Kiwi. Not sure the name of his company. You don’t want the mount so solid that it either distorts your chassis where it mounts or ubsets the car so much it puts you into a worse loss of control. I would lose splitters when my car would either dig in if the soft Florida soil or when straddling curbing. With plywood there is a glorious explosion of toothpicks and you continue on your way.

I would want something thing that I could stand on....but if I bounce on it would break away.

Devsport mounts and any turnbuckle type rods will bend or rip out of the splitter long before there is any threat to the chassis. I made my splitter out of alumalite. More expensive and a lot harder to find than wood, but lighter, thinner, and better fire resistance.

Doing it over, I'd buy (or build) quick release splitter mounts up front so I could get away with not having to remove the front bumper every time I needed to pull the splitter.

I would probably find conical washers for that (like the below image), rather than straight ones.

My dad has the devsport and thinks if you spot welded the nuts on the bottom of the mount, you could remove it from below with just a wrench.

Install the pin from the inside, reach in the bumper opening and pull it.

I go through a couple splitters a year, it would get really ecpensive to use carbon. 1/2-3/4" birch works awesome, cheap and if you go mild with about a 3" splitter 1 sheet will make two blades
