Just for comparison, Spec Miata spring rates are 700 lb. front and 325 lb. rear, and that's on a 2,300 pound car!

Weird.... what is the weight distribution on a Spec Miata? I had ~670F/480R on my Prelude, but it had a 60/40ish weight distribution (and weighed in around 3000lbs).

Aren't some of our dedicated track guys here running in the 700-800lb/in range on 2300-2400lb cars, too?

My most recent and so far best performing setup for the track is with 500 front/650 rear springs, with the stock '03 front swaybar and no rear swaybar, running on 235/275-17 RA1s. My car weighs about 2860 with driver, 49/51 front to rear weight ratio. Remember that in comparing cars, you also have to consider the motion ratio of the suspension, and so you really need to compare wheel rates, not spring rates.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I have a 60" rear wing also. The guys on slicks are running higher spring rates and no rear bar (on significantly lighter cars too), but this may not work well unless you have slicks (stiffer sidewalls) and huge wing (they use 67" wing) to keep the rear settled in bumpy corners (just my guess).

I'm running 670 lb at all corners. But it had some serious handling issues with the tires I was using. I tested it with 235/275 (f/r) toyos at the track a few weeks ago and that made things MUCH better.
