Stretched lug nuts? yes, no? When to replace them?

i also wouldnt advise running aluminum lugs. i use blackworks steel open ended lugs. they come in about any color you could want and are only 50-60 bucks

thanks for all the steel lug recommendations. I'll go that route next time.

Whatever the case, that set lasted 6+ years. regarding OEM wheels I know that they're ball seat versus aftermarket being tapered. I also haven't had OEM wheels in my possession for 4+ years now, so, i know i didn't screw that part up.

I use the conical seat on my 949 6UL wheels with no distortion. Once you use them on a stock wheel though they will start to look like that.
I'd like to think most guys here in R&C know the difference between the cone and ball type lug nuts and which to use when.

Most do. The picture from the OP is from an aluminum conical nut on a bubble seat. OP must not be most people. You never know when you'll learn something.

I usually rotate a set out over 12-18mo.

Also, if youre using open-ended lugs, dont forget a hydro-phobic lube (only on the thread, not mating surface) to keep moisture out of the threads. Ive seen too many people break studs because the open lug allowed moisture in and, then track heat cycles accelerated the corrosion.

Amazon (from a quick search) does not have a pack of 25, I only see pack of 20

I have been using Rays Alum Duralugs (short) for 10 plus years and 150k miles. They have been gunned on and off countless times.

The threads and the cone seats are in brand new condition. They spin on and off with ease with no blemishes at all.

I am typically against alum lugs, but these things have been indestructible.

949s seem very high quality as well.
