Default sub-strap mounting

I was thinking about an alternative to welding a mount plate for the sub strap:

I would be using stainless washers (highest grade I can find).
what do you guys think?

have any of you guys done it this way?

should work just fine.
you have to make sure the washers are big to take the load

Big washers... but the only problem is that if you want to undo it might be a pain... could just spot weld the nut on quick. just to make it easier to take out etc...

I did it with a washer, but I used something a little better than a "washer".

I used a 1/4" steel plate, drilled a hole in it, then drilled a hole in the floor to match. My steel plate is about 2.5" x 2.5" diameter. Maybe what I did was overkill but I don't want the bolts coming out!

Then I used red loctite on the bolts and a lockwasher as well.

Why not just use the Schroth backing plates?

You want a big washer/plate on the nut side too! The only load on this thing will be a pulling force, you want something to spread the load across sheet metal so the nut won't just pull through.

The Schroth plates look good. I'd go bigger but I prefer a bit of overkill when it comes to safety.

Mike is right, pull through resistance. I use sabelt plates that look like the schroth but with an extra hole for a set screw or tack, and better welds. I'll take a pic.
