T2 race report - IRP

from my sccaforums.com post:
1) Buttermore (T2) 1:47.681 (new lap record probably mostly due to the repaved turn 1) - CTSV
2) Baten (T2) 1:48.220 - Camaro
3) Moore (T2) 1:48.327 - Camaro
4) Henderson (T2) 1:48.582 - 350Z
5) Lucas (T2) 1:48.556 - S2000
6) Swan (T2) 1:52.458 - S2000

Had fun chasing Jason during the opening laps but he had the same issue I did where the V8 cars would open up the gap on every straight. For me it was about 1/3 of the front straight from me, and Jason would pull about somewhere in between them & me. We'd catch up again around T10 but it was very hairy pushing that hard through the twisties. It eventually got the better of me and I did a 180 after exiting T6. I got going quickly and maintained a front striaght gap to Jason for the rest of the race. I couldn't see the V8 cars so maybe he can comment on how the rest went for him. The S2000 was quick in the corners, definately the fastest in the corners this weekend, but it's hard to convey how hairy of a ride it is pushing it to the limit all the time. I had all 153 ft-lbs of torque working as hard as I could and despite my spin I am happy with my drive as I took time off my lap every session.

Other comments: Swan just never got comfortable with the bumpy turns, and was a gentleman by not stuffing it inside of me at T1 on the start even though he got the jump on me at the green flag. Ed was a gentleman with passing the hottly contested SSC leaders (top 3 cars were nose to tail for the entire race, 0.9 sec gap at the end of the race) and waited for the front straight. Buttermore, Moore & Henderson were all under the lap record in qualifying (Baten broke a header or he would have been too) but it was much hotter on Sunday.

Two thumbs up for my Koni 2812s which after one tweak in practice were incredibly good with the rough conditions at IRP.

Wow, nice job sticking it to Swan...and within a second of the V8s

I heard from a good source that one of the S2000's might have been experiencing clutch issues.

Also the Caddy was as fast as the T1 winning Corvette....true?

Well Swan was paddocked with me and he was not having clutch issues (neither was I), so I'm curious what made someone think that?

The Corvette only got by the Caddy on the last lap. I'm not sure how up to speed the Corvette guy is but I got the impression he was not a front runner.

Probably more meaninful data than fast lap I reported previously, is average lap time (from mylaps.com data). This will include some insight into the ability of the car to maintain laps including traffic, tire management. brakes, difficulty to drive, etc...

Buttermore 1:48.6
Baten 1:49.4
Moore 1:49.4
Henderson 1:49.8
Lucas 1:50.2 (ignoring the spin lap)

Just his best questimate of why S2000 # 2 was slower than S2000 #1
