Track Ready Checklist

Have a goal to make it out to a few track days this summer. Been busy with life and things so the S2K has gotten a bit neglected the past year. Looking to bring it out of the garage queen status and take it out. What would you guys say are the absolute musts to get my car track ready?

Keep in mind my goal is to try and keep the car as stock as possible. Not so much a cost issue but I want to drive the car as-is this season and then see where it goes. My last one had all the nice mods so I'm trying to keep this true to its form. Plus I'm too old to be stanced out and shit.

Here is my list so far:
  • Fluids change - engine, trans, diff oils
  • Valve adjustment
  • Tires
  • Full tank of gas

Missing anything else?

Also - bonus question - anyone have any issues with the broom test. I'll search too. :flame:

Yeah unless you're like 5'5" you're not going to pass the broomstick test. Always have a spare set of pads and rotors. Not an ABSOLUTE must but be sure you have some good tires (RE71/RS3 etc etc). If you have more than 100k miles on the car you may want to consider upgrading to SS brake lines.

DOT4 brake fluid is most definitely a must.

How about an alignment check to make sure nothing is way out of wack?

Depending on age of car maybe stainless steel brake lines, just for added safety pillow.

Broomstick test is not enforced by all organizations. It depends on the organization. SpeedSF for instance does not enforce, NCRC claims to enforce but I haven't actually seen it in practice.

OP. Part of what you need depends on the track you are going to. If you are going to Laguna Seca, you will need good pads unless you want to melt pads. I always recommend stainless steel lines on older cars.

As RedCelica has said, you probably want some 200 tread wear rating tires to maximize your experience.

If you need any services done, PM me. I'm in Milpitas.

don't forget coolant and check all coolant hoses for age/cracks.

check brake lines for age/cracks.

check clutch master cylinder for the common leakage

check brake pad life and brake rotor condition

check helmet

If it's any help my radiator cracked at the top at my last event. If yours is original check to make sure there aren't any hairline fractures which could fail.

Also take a gallon of water and food for you and a nice chair to sit on.

Other than that have fun!!

i always like to have a couple cameras mounted up so i can review how i was driving.. i think i saw it up there but a good alignment is key.

Loosen and torque your lug nuts to spec's.

With car raised up check all suspension attachment points for wear and excessive play.

Check seat belts for wear and function, even stock belts need to be checked regularly.

Ensure your car isn't leaking fluids, oil, coolant, etc.
