Track Substitute for Water/Wetter to protect freezing temps

Hey guys with the cold front that we just got hit with button willow is going to get hit with some ridiculously cold overnight temps.

Normally this is a non factor as the S2ks don't go out in the cold, but I'm already committed to the coming weekend.

Currently, I'm on Water + Water Wetter, is their something I can toss in to protect the engine from the freezing temps that isn't a glycol based coolant? I think it's ugly when people use coolant on the track in the event that spill it all over and ruin traction for everyone else.

It's uglier to crack a block from freezing....

Leave your rad cap and heater cap open. If the pressure has a release then it won't crack.

If you're that paranoid, idle your car all night, and leave the door locked, and take a spare key.

I think its time for some coolant

Most of the racing organizations I know will make a judgement call based on the weather. i.e. while glycol based coolant is not allowed normally for W2W, they make exceptions if they know the weather is going to be cold. I would just run a lower mix of coolant. Unless you plan on dumping it on the track (which I doubt you do), protect your engine. ;)

In my motorcycle I used to run Engine Ice. Not sure thats an acceptable option, but I loved that stuff. Was good down into the negative temperatures. When I ran it the race / track organizations used to allow it.

Iirc engine ice is glycol based so not allowed in w2w organizations

Ok I will drain some water out and toss some coolant in, anyone know minimum coolant to mix to protect the block?

How about Evans coolant? If I remember correctly, that is not glycol based.

Even some W2W organizations will let you run coolant when it gets that cold.

Not to high jack, but what are your thoughts on tires and pressures for conditions like these?

Not an exact science, but this graph on this page should get you close:

Heat builds pressure, so the lower the ambient temperature the less heat your tires will build (i.e. the less pressure gain you get). I would start with a few PSI higher than you normally would to account for the ambient temps, and then adjust from there.
