Default Trying out Hankook Z214 C70

I experienced the AP1 rear wheel lift several times last year with the typical V710 225/265 configuration. I'm already getting almost unbearable understeer with the current FSB setting, I've pretty much lived with the problem.

When I learned that Steve W. was able to address this issue with his car and captured 2nd place at nationals, I thought I would follow his lead of going 245/45-16 on all corners and go full stiff with the FSB.

Of course, my car stuff prep (relating to this issue) is on the cheap compared to his:
Koni Sports, OTS
Sanar FSB, but modified with an extra stiffer setting

but hope that I can get similar results on a small budget. With this being said, instead of going with the A6's (V710's not available in this size), I'm going to try the Hankook Z214 C70. These tires seemed to get a good review by grassroots motorsports... so what the heck!

Since I haven't seen any posts regarding this tire with the S2000, I thought I would go ahead and share what I have so far.

Obtaining the Z214's is a bit more difficult than the A6's and V710's as there appears to be a limited number of Hankook dealers that can sell the competition tires. I ended up getting my tires from
http://www.frisbyracetire.com
and they provided a good price of $800 shipped and was delivered 1-2 days faster than expected (just this past Monday).

Yesterday, I had them mounted and here are some pics:

Width Comparisons
Z214's are on on left side of the image, and the rear tires are closest to the camera... Notice how the V710's 225's are pretty close to the same width to the Z214's 245's.

Pinch Comparisons
Z214's on left side of the image, and the rear tires are closest to the camera. Look how much better the rear pinch is and how little difference there is between the fronts.

I will heat cycle them this weekend and then have my 1st event the following weekend.

I hope all goes well with these tires and configuration. Wish me luck! :-)

Good luck with the new tires. I'm also wanting to go this route when I have the money (even though these are $20 or so per tire cheaper than Hoosiers, its still not easy to drop almost a grand on tires for me). Let us know how they grip and wear compared to the 710s you had.

Slightly off topic...

I just got a set of the more street compound RS-2 Z212 in 205/55-16 and 245/45-16. They were so cheap from www.edgeracing.com I figured they would be a rain tire option for driving schools as my street S-02s have a tendency to live their life nearly bald.

I have the dimensions home, I'll add them tomorrow, but I measured the Hankooks and compared them to S-02s and RA-1s, and the comparision should be rather reliable as I have 3 sets of AP1 16" wheels so they are all mounted on the ecact same wheel.

I figured I had to give Hankook a try, it's nice to see others are doing the same thing.

I've heard complaints from some racers that the Z214 C70 compound just doesn't take very many heat cycles before it starts falling off badly.

The word is they need to be properly heat cycled to get best results. But because the tires are so new, there is not a lot of reliable info on them yet.

I can assure you that the tires were properly heat cycled.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I will do my best to log and share my experience with these tires. Hopefully, they will do a good job and provide us another solid alternative for comp. tires.

Were the C70's used for autocross or on track? The C70 compound is a softer compound more so for autocross or cold weather track events/qualifying. For track events, the C50 compound will give you more heat cycles.

In that first tire picture you meant to say the Hankooks are almost the same size as the 265s 710s, (not 225) right?
