hopefully the sampling rate is faster then the old VIRB. compared to GPS data the Virb was 5mph off on my car over the weekend

It is 10hz vs the old 1hz from my understanding. In my video you see the main speedo which is linked via OBD and the GPS speed above it. They are both almost exactly the same when the car gets going.

I can’t seem to find that spec on the Garmin site. I have the Garmin vibe XE and noticed that it’s off from cat cluster speed and video overlay data. So is the ultra 30 worth the upgrade.

In case anyone is interested in a review. This guy usually do pretty good reviews, albeit not Motorsports centric.

even in the comparison table, there is no mention of the virb xe gps data rate

I don't recall where I saw the GPS sampling rate specified, but to be clear, I remember it being listed as "up to 10 Hz".

FWIW, I expect the limitation on sampling rate on phones is imposed by the OS to limit power consumption. I'd be surprised if the GPS chips themselves were not capable of faster sampling. But that's just my speculation.

So you don't need your phone at all with this, since it has GPS? Right now I'm using my phone, Go Pro, and OBD2 port with Race Chrono.

There's no realtime feedback for laptimes so I usually use Harry's on my cell as well.

I got it sorted out. The lap times were very accurate compared to the AIM and I created a template that I saved on the VIRB software that made creating this video a very quick project.
