What Seat? 2018

Hi guys,

To preface, I have used the search feature on this topic, but I couldn't find any NEW info. Everything that was coming up was from like 2007. I know that there are a lot of new seats out there since 2007!

I am a slightly tall and big guy (5'11"/ 34" waist/ 215 lbs .....180 cm and 97 kgs for you guys over the pond). I am hoping to build a street car that i can take over to the biweekly time attack nights in my city. By this, I was hoping to just install a roll bar, buy a helmet and keep the stock seats and call it a day.

I finally save up to buy a HJC helmet and I sit down to see if I pass the broomstick test. I just missed it by like 1-2 inches. :thud:

So now I have to either get some BYS rails for my stock seats (Not sure if they even make these anymore! or if the 20mm drop is enough) OR I can get a race seat.

I have been looking at seats (Sparco specifically) and I really can't seem to find any thing that says what seat is the best to drop height AND still fit my 34" waist.

Does anyone have any recommendation for seats that are out in 2018 that provide a decent drop AND can fit a big dude like me?

Thanks! :D

The Sparco Evo2 should meet both of those requirements with the right seat rails (Planted being one), though I highly recommend you find someone local to you that has the seat and try it out. What is comfortable and acceptable for one person/body shape can be very different than for someone else.

I think your best bet is a Pole Position w/ PCI rails. You'll have to drive without the cushion on the seat no matter what seat you get.

I'm 6'2" with 34" waist and use the Sparco Ergo Med and also fit well in my buddy's Sparco Rev II Large. The Ergo Med is a tight fit but I got it to go with some modifications to a set of PCI mounts.

Still don't pass broomstick even with the cushion pulled, I have to slouch a bit if I wanted to pass it. It did drop me by about 2" if I were to guess.

I recently installed a Sparco Evo 2 seat in my S on buddy club rails. I am of similar size as you, 5'11, 205 lbs, and 32 waist, and this seat fits me well. I'd say that the seat dropped me about 2 inches, maybe more, from stock height.
If you're considering going the Sparco route, look at their main site, Sparco.it, versus getting it from a shop in the US. I saved a few hundred getting them from Europe than buying it from a shop locally. May even have a coupon code lying around somewhere if you're interested.

I bought my Sparco when eBay was having a 20% off sale. It comes around every 2-3 weeks.

Lots of new seats since 2007, none fit our car :). Basically it is the same Sparco EVO, Recaro PP world.

Do Sparco EVO2s fit in the S2000 without modification? I found some posts mentioning they had to shave down some portions of the seat. How about the regular EVOs? I was looking at the Sparcos as well, though I'm a smaller guy so I was mainly looking at the REV. I also noticed they have a new seat called the QRTR, but I can't seem to really find dimensions for it online, their website seems to have it missing from their size chart, though they say it's a medium to large seat.

I have Sparco Pro 2000s in mine; the driver's seat is on sliders, so I could drop it another inch without those—possibly more with a different mount. (Mine's PCI.) Anyway, I'm 5'8" and with the cushion in I clear a broomstick by about 1/2" (with a Hard Dog bar). If I remove the cushion and slouch I can clear by 2", which one organizer required.

So, at 5'11" your torso is probably ~1-1.5" taller than mine, so if you forgo the sliders and remove the cushion I would expect you to clear the broomstick test by around an inch.

As far as fit, the seat fits me well at 5'8", 170lb, 31" waist or so. I think you'd fit snugly but comfortably.

The one caveat is it's a pain in the ass to get these seats to fit without hitting the door panels, but it is possible. They do block the center storage though, so it will only open part way.

Sparco EVO 2 US spec in mine. Shaved a little bit of the shoulder piece to make it fit "better". Still makes contact with the door card but not that bad. Worth it for the deliciousness that is the Sparco Evo.

5'5" 34" waist, hockey thighs. ~195 lbs. It was the only one I fit in because of my thick legs.
