Default Why do people upgrade control arms and such

I’ve see a lot of s2000s with swapped out shocks to coil overs, and I get that, but why do people swap out control arms and camber kits and other parts?

Two big reasons. One is to get more camber and the second is to move the wheel/tire around to get that perfect fit. Another, smaller IMHO is that the stock arms use rubber bushings and using poly/delrin/spherical will decrease deflection and maintain alignment better under loading.

Looks and/or handling.

On a car that is driven aggressively with sticky (200 treadwear) extreme summer tires, a car requires more camber than the stock adjusters can get to be setup optimally. Stock adjusters at stock height get about 1.7 degrees front camber. At that setting, I was eating through the outside shoulder of the tire 2x to my rear tires. Part of it is fitting the biggest wheels and rubber under whatever fender setup you have. For control arms, sometimes it's getting camber, sometimes it's replacing the rubber bushings with bearings instead.

are we talking an adjustable upper control arm for the rear? or a full blown wisefab kit?

but to answer your question, in the endless pursuit of SPEEEEEEDS

I only track my S2K, so street is not an issue.

I'm running 265 square set up with 10.5's and would like to run slicks.
Currently running Advan A052 which are a little wider than normal and Im at the limit for camber, 2.9 fronts which is fine but I doubt I would get the clearance with slicks.
Reason I am considering a wisefab (strongest/lightest out there?) is to allow more clearance with slicks which can also be wider then typical 265? and for strength with extra grip? My car lived in the north for about a decade and I've since had to replace just about everything underneath the car since I began tracking the car. Control arms and steering rack is about the only left to change.

Anyone running 265 or more up front?

Wow, what offset are you running?! I barely have any clearance with my 265 up front. The rear seems much more tolerable.

Are you thinking that the Wisefab is going to allow more fender clearance or to not rub the arms when turning? Wisefab says track width is about the same as stock, so fender clearance should roughly be the same. You can probably adjust out/in a bit with the Wisfab stuff but it's not going to be drastically different than stock on that front. For not rubbing the arms, it appears Wisefab may help but I don't know that offhand.

Fender clearance is not the issue for me. From what Ive read some on here, strength of the control arms can be compromised when running slicks given the amount of grip. Second, is the ability to run more camber if pushing the wheel out?

currently 10.5x18 et25 with a 285 tire. j's gt widebody. the rear is the square with a 25mm spacer for et0

i'd get the wisefab for the improved geometry and strength.
