Wing and Trunk
Planning on adding aero this winter and have a question or two. I want to have my wing mounted on an extra trunk and I plan on a Nine Lives Racing 68”. Will a carbon trunk lid hold up well enough to the DF of a wing? Or would the best bet be to stay OE on the trunk? Found a number of posts where OE trunk is deforming and having to add the CR rubber to the trunk. TIA for the help. |

I have the Nine Lives Racing 68" with the Emissive endplates and I'm using a damaged trunk I bought off eBay for $200.
I've only gotten one day on it so far and ran an unoptimized 4" splitter; I tried running the wing flat and down to 2* AoA and the car was not OVERLY pushy at speed but it was still pushy and the fastest speeds for this track are about 100mph. It will be a different story at faster tracks. I am able to physically stand on the wing (I weigh 155lb, and yes, I tried) and the trunk does not bend the way it does with some other wings (pull up the front) so far, but I need to figure out how to brace the trunk better since it pushed the rubber down far enough that the trunk rubbed into my bumper. The top feet do not mount in a way that matches the curve of the top of the trunk, so it will flatten these areas out. I don't know how that will work with a CF trunk, as well as the cutting that you will need to do to the bracing to bolt it on. I guess I'd just stay safe and run an OEM trunk with this wing. Composites are weak in shear, whereas the force on your wing is axial on the trunk. If it's true carbon and not a bling piece you should be fine.
Aero on our car isn't a whole lot of downforce either. I'm guessing the 9lives is about 150-200 lbs. |

Does anyone else have trouble with trunk rattling when driving around with the trunk on? Any tricks for fastening or should I ignore it?
I have a 1600 mm Voltex type 7 and it kinda drives me crazy. |
You can put window foam / insulation or something on where the trunk contacts the tail light / body of the car to take up the space and prevent the trunk rattling against the latch. I did that at first, then switched to a thicker rubber that requires me to drop the trunk to get it to latch again as a measure against the angle of the wing changing as the stock pieces compress.
