The majority of me says "Leave it! Spend your money on track days!" There's a small voice though, that says "You need to fix that."

I would fix it, but my car is not a dedicated track car. The bad thing is there is really no easy way to fix that rear quarter, so something like that might cause me to gut my car and make it a dedicated track car. In which case I would DIY it the best way possible

I would fix it, that looks bad and TBH the black trunk looks yuck to. This isn't a $500 91 civic, its a 10k+ sports car, treat it like you love it.

The trunk is CF vinyl wrapped and I love it :D

Yeah I failed to mention this thing is a gutted, stripped, not street legal, comprehensively-insuranced only, dedicated track whore.

That's pretty easily accessible from the trunk, no?

I might ask a PDR guy what he could do but there would certainly be no welding in a new panel.

Leaving the damage and paint there may keep some folks farther away from you on the track. :) Any race rules prohibit entering cars with body damage? (Just curious.)

Im only interested in moving up the instructor ranks for the next two years, but to answer your question: Section 12.2 of NASA TT rules states:


12.2 General Car Appearance All vehicles must be in good condition and appearance. Vehicles with excessive body damage, primered body panels, etc., are not permitted. The vehicle must meet the “50/50” rule, which means it must look undamaged and straight at fifty (50) mph from fifty (50) feet away.

Problem is that there's denser metal behind it. Would have to be pulled with a pneumatic suction dent puller. Which are $65 at harbor freight :D

I say leave it. I haven't had an impact like that yet (a few near misses). However, I have folded my front fenders under pretty bad in a spin out. So much so they ripped through tires. What did I do? Hammered them back out as straight as I could, and then went back and rolled and pulled them even further. It's been two years and I'm still rocking them. Maybe hammer it out as much as you can and roll with it.

I got a feeling that more street street guys are going to say just as the one guys did 'fix it, it's a $10k car' or whatever. And more track only guys will say 'roll with it'. At the least I'd say wait til the end of the season to fix it, if you're going to. That's what winter's for. In the meantime get more events out of it
