Default 96 VR-4 Vs. Lancer Evolution 8

ME: 96 VR-4 w/ BC @ 12.5-13PSI/BOV/INTAKE
HIM: 03 EVO 8 BONE STOCK

The guy finally broke the car in but blew a clutch. Mitsu dealer replaced the clutch and we got together last night. It was a bit colder out so both cars were running good.

We started at a light but it was wet. GREEN. I put like 5 cars at the launch, apparently he spun, but so did I. He said he thought I didn't wanna go at the light but ended up revving and launching at the same time? Who knows.

The race.

1st Run:

Went from 40MPH to 125ish MPH. I started with my nose on his door about 1/2 car back. From 2nd to 3rd, I pulled like 3 FT. From 3rd to 4th, I pulled almost 3/4 car length. From 4th on, (around 100MPHish) I pulled very very hard. I would start to put cars if we didn't shut down.

2nd Run:
Went from aabout 35MPH to 120ish MPH. I started 1/2 car back and I was in a really crappy RPM. 2nd was way to low but I kept with it. EV0 put a full car length until I was fully spooled. From 2nd to 3rd, I put 1/2 car length. 3rd to 4th. I put a full car lenght and was ahead by about 3/4 of a car length.

It was a very close race.

CONCLUSIONS:

1) The car is LEGIT mid 13s second car.
2) After 110MPH, the car loses steam very very fast. If we went to 130MPH+, it would have been *VERY* ugly.
3) The car is amazing when it comes to just handling. This is from a third party watching it change lanes and move around. Quite impressive.
4) The interior is horrible. Lack of leather or cruise and the similarities between the base Lancer make me wonder WTF Mitsubishi was thinking
5) The car is NOT worth $5-10 over MSRP. I think for the performance it could be an upper $20s car. The options and straight-line performance lack it to compete with the costs of the 03 Cobra, Z06, etc.
6) If anyone wants to race it, make sure your a mid 13s car, anything past 120MPH is not fair for the EVO. It just isn't geared for it.

VR-4 Comparison

1) 1st Gen VR-4 should have more than it's hands full. I can't see the car winning
2) 1st Gen VR-4 will PULL fairly hard to hard past 120MPH
3) 2nd Gen VR-4 will be a very fair race. I can't say who would edge, depends on how much gas, what you weigh, and your experience. It's very close.

Cool race.

So, how bad do you suppose an S2 will walk it past 100? How do you do against against S2's in the upper ranges (as a comparison)?

Well, that's a really good question. Unfortunately, there is only one s2000 in my area that I know of. I see 3 or 4 others in the entire area but one is riced and looks beaten to hell and the others driven by older men.

The guy won't race me at all. I have tried several times. He's the type that won't race if he fears he has any chance of losing. I don't have any personal experience when it comes to my car vs. the s2000. From my track times, I should beat even a well-driven one at the track. From a roll, that's completely different. I should be able to pull an s2000 in any gear. Who knows!?

As far as the s2000 vs. the EVO... Well, at the track, it stock vs. stock, the s2000 should not win any race at all. Anything can happen tho. From a roll to 100? I can see the s2000 being dead even. From, 110MPH, I see the s2000 pulling very hard and putting cars on it depending on the let off. I would say stock vs. stock, the s2000 will pull ahead at like 105MPHish.

That's a good question. I wonder what a good 60 FT. is for the EVO. I have only cut 1.9 due to wheel spin and rode the clutch. First time at track. I did a 2.25, 1.97, and 2.15 LOL I usually do much better but its quite different when the spot light is on you. Anyhow, a good 60 FT. for my car is 1.7-1.8, I have NO idea what it is for the EVO. Good question

Well, I doubt you can in the 1/4 mile but after 110MPH, I honestly think you will pull. It won't be a hard pull but you should pull away. I'd love to find one but none in my area

a supercharged + intake, header, exhaust s should demolish a stock evo easily in every way except maybe launch
