Default AP1 vs GTI turbo

On the way back from a UNCC meet on the highway and I came up on this GTI that said "turbo" on the back I was like hum....
My mods are berk testpipe and gutted air intake with K&N. The GTI had a tune running 22 psi. First run we go at a 30 roll I instantly pull a car on him then start walking him another 3. Then we go for a 45 once again i pull one car before his turbo spools and another 3 or so I shut down at 100. Just thought I would share this little encounter!

I don't know(or care) what kind of turbo the GTI's have, but psi doesn't mean much by itself. It could be a tiny turbo out of its efficiency range.

Nobody thinks the S2k can keep up with anything. That's why it's usually so fun to see the look on their face as I walk them.

I can vouch for Chase as i was there last night. It was a 1.8 turbo Golf that had the stock turbo at 22lbs. He had an aftermarket front mount and a tune.

^^

They finally have one thats kinda quick now (MKV). Last I saw it ran a 12.0@117 with the APR stage 3 upgraded turbo kit.

But stage 1's will get worked by properly driven s2000's, and stage 2's will probably be a drivers race. Stage 1 usually traps ~ 97-98...Stage 2 ~99-103. And some have seen 105 traps with meth.

Ya rly, they have hair dryers under the hood. 22lbs is definitely out of the efficiency range. You could keep going to say your "running" high boost, but your just over exerting a blow dryer that is already working hard as it is. It sounds nice, but goes nowhere.

I will chime in on this thread.

My brother has a Mark 5 GTI with a stage 1 APR tune. It's putting down something like 250hp and 300tq. He also has an intake.

I have an AP1 with K&N short ram intake - completely stock other than that. I had the top down, he had a passenger.

We did a run on the highway a month or two back. I believe I was in 2nd gear right at 6k rpms and I don't know what he was at.. but we ran up to about 110 mph and it was literally dead even. I would pull a little bit up top but as soon as I shifted it would level out.

From a dig I would smoke him, but it was completely dead even with a highway run.

Stage 1, which is a chip and intake on the MKV's, will get you ~ 225-235 whp, and 270-280 wheel torque. And that peaks ~ 2k rpms (torque), and 4k (HP). Which makes significantly less near red line. Stage 1's (depending on the tune company) spike ~ 21-22psi, but bleed down to 15-16 by red line. Some like APR only spike ~ 19-20.

If you were dead even with a car that traps ~97-98mph, then I feel that falls on you. Especially if you were right in VTEC.

To give you an idea of a stage 1 GTI check some of my vids of my stock G35 coupe (2004) running against my buddies GTI MKV..

I'll put up a few so maybe the ones who aren't too familiar get an idea of what these cars run like with stage 1 and stage 2 software, and mods.

I think everyone knows how fast, or lack there of a G35 coupe with 280chp is.
