Magazine times mean nothing during a street race - my friend had a auto g35 with an intake - he also had way too much camber and very worn tires so when he went up against a car another second and a half slower he lost right off the line when traction control cut power.
My dad raced his sl550 against my bosses srt8 charger and owned him for the same exact reason.

I can maybe see this happening if your friend is as shitty driver. HR 350z's trap 105-107 MPH and run low 13's bone stock, while an S2000 bone stock runs 100-102 MPH and 13.6-13.9's at best. Not sure how much benefit your mods give (50-60 lb weight reduction with exhaust, tp, and header), and if you've got a good tune you probably picked up 15-20 whp at peak and big chunks in the midrange. So your trap at best would be... 103-104? Passenger in 350z hurts it even further. Anything can happen on the streets!
I'd guess you're a really good driver and your buddy sucks + handicapped due to passenger. Good kill.

We started at 65mph and went to 150mph. He was about 2 cars ahead when we let off.

Its where he started the race. top of 2nd means 50ish. That gives the S a good 10mph in the peak peak of its powerband. If the HR 350 is at the low end of a shift, the S will jump in front, every single time.
If you wanna cheat in any street race, start around 50-55, drop it down to 2nd gear and you WILL jump ahead of a LOT of cars.
