ap2 vs. mustang highway pull

I was on my way home from a hockey game (yes, my huge hockey back fits in the S) cruising in 6th gear around 70mph on the highway and a mustang pulled up behind me. It wasn't a 5.slow, it was a newer body model but I assume it was an early 2000's v6 model by how easily I pulled on him.

Anyway, the guy pulled up on me so I moved over to let him by and he got alongside me and revved a little bit...I was still a little hyped up from my game so I was like ohhh no, that's not gonna happen buddy...I had the top down but dark tinted windows up and I rolled the windows down and stared at him. Not sure if he was manual or auto but in any case he went WOT and I heard his engine (just kidding, it was all exhaust) and I decided to downshift and take him.

By this point we were alongside each other going about 80 and I downshifted to 5th and then 4th gear and VTEC'd my way past him in 4th, through 5th, and cut off around 110 in 6th. I started pulling on him easily as soon as I got through my first round of VTEC and by the time I cut off I was easily 3 car lengths ahead of him or more.

He did the typical ricer flyby and I let him go then caught up and burned him again. After that he decided it would be wise to stay behind me.

Just a little anecdote to show that your V6 "muscle car" isn't always all it's cracked up to be ;)

Granted, there are fast variants of the standard Mustang, most notably the GT500 and the tuned Roush/Saleen/etc versions, but stock vs. stock, I fail to see how something that can't keep up with an inline four with absolutely no torque, especially at highway speeds, can be considered a muscle car.

Someone always has to be a tough guy, it just can't be a friendly race.

???? Not sure if you understand the relationship between horsepower and torque, but highway speeds are typically better than low speeds for lower torque cars like the S2000. Also, no one has ever considered V6 variants to be "muscle cars". Since the 60s they've been dubbed the "secretary's car".

Regardless, good kill. He did start it and probably thought he was going to win it.

If it was a 2005 model v6 or newer.. You should have tried a 20 roll with it..

They are pretty torque for what they are.. I guess having a 4.6 liter v6 from an explorer has it's perks (2005+ v6)

Nice kill!!

Nice.

4.0L V6 while the V8 was a 4.6L. My ex-gf had one, it was a lot better all around than I expected it to be.

Oh my fault.. Lo

My friend has an 05 gt with exhaust/tune/drag radials and runs 14.3's with it.. It's an auto though..

I wish I could find the video of us making a pass to upload it..

What do *you* run on the same day? What's his trap speed? And most importantly, what's the elevation of the track?

If he has drag radials he shouldn't be losing time on the start, and since it's an auto there shouldn't be a issue with shifting. Which means either the track is poor, at higher altitude, your friend really sucks at driving, or he modded his car to be slower than stock. 14.3 is a mediocre time for a stock auto 99-04 GT. But there are a lot of variables at a drag strip.

Holy hell I meant 05 v6 lol

Sorry for the confusion..
