Last night I was heading out to the weekly meets and I was cruisin along the freeway going around 75MPH. I was driving along and the freeway was kinda empty but all of the sudden I hear a modified exhaust and it pulls up next to me.. I look over and I see a lowered pretty clean looking white MR2.

I hear the oh so familiar downshifted exhaust note and I'm wondering whats next. He starts jabbing the gas to see if I'm down to rumble and I actually was with my Valentine 1 looking bored as usual. I let him jab the gas a couple of times and then I downshifted into fourth and I punched it. He immediately punched it too and stayed by my side for maybe one second until I started pulling in fourth, and then I pulled a bit more in fifth. I got into 6th around 120 and I shut down because I ended up taking him pretty good.

I know it was a turbo MR2 and had some pretty good boost going. I think he was ready to to pick on a lil ole S2000 on the freeway but he ran into the wrong S... a 4.77 geared supercharged S2000 with some weight reduction I had been wanting to race someone for a while but I'm never an instigator and I'm glad I won

Funny thing is, at the car meet later on I think I saw the same white MR2 pull up into the parking lot but they never got out of their car and they left after about 5 minutes.

 

^ nice kill. I'm guessing you're close to your top speed at that point? What rpm was it at when you hit 120mph?

i was just entering 6th gear so I had about 20 more mph to go but the race was over and I didn't wanna wind out 6th cause I have an axial flow short shifter and 1st through 5th gear doesnt buzz but damn... in 6th gear at that high of RPM it feels like a sub machine gun going off inside my tranny.

 

75mph. I think you should have used 3rd maybe?

with 4.77's & AP1 my gearing is like this:

max speed in each gear (25" tire diameter)

1st: 35
2nd: 55
3rd: 75
4th: 100
5th: 120ish
6th: to about 140 but i havent gone that fast

if we had slowed down a little bit i would have been able to use the upper part of 3rd and pulled away even quicker. i didnt beat him that badly...maybe 4-5 cars.

 

what kit are you running and how much boost?

Nice kill...Im sure he has run a few stock S2K's and figured he'd beat up on another, I bet it was an eye opening experience for him Watch out though, I know of a few MR2's in the Bay Area that are pretty quick.
