<---Evil EVO

IMHO you wuill lose no matter what speed. I honestly think people need to stop saying "oh its slow from a roll because of AWD" sorry but that is a joke. Im not trying to bash anyone for saying it, I know before buying the Evo, I used to hear it all the time. I used to hear after 100mph it would fall flat on its face, lol, I used to think, well that sucks so once I get to 100 im gonna get passed by Civics

The Evo/STi are fast from any speed, believe me. I dont care if the S2K is in V-tec ready to go, the Evo/STi will be spooling and making more torque and more power. I really need to get a camera so I can record me and the wife running, we can even switch cars so nobody says its the driver. We ran from a 20 mph roll and honestly I dont know how many lenghts the Evo put on the S, I would say 5-6 up to about 120, really its not even close. From a higher mph, yes it is closer but not that much and I dont care if we go up to 140 the S wont catch my Evo with just the turboback and Intake w/upper ic piping.

I agree, if the driver sux it can be close, but if the driver is decent the S will not win.

Again, my opinion not trying to start a flame war. But its a little easier for me to see since we have the S and the Evo, and yes I have raced an STi and I did pull on him at the top of 3rd gear.

LOL, I just remembered this...Funny story.

One night I went out to get something to eat at In & Out. Im just cruising and a car pulls up behind me pretty quick, I thought it was a cop so I just continued my speed, so he pulls up alongside me and I look over, it was a Mercedes, sorry im not into Merc's so I dont know what it was. It looked like a late 90's early 00 it was kinda sleek looking, kinda long. Anyways he speeds up then slows down, so im like ok, I drop it down to 2nd and we take off, I put about 3 cars on him, then he cuts behind me and follows me to In & Out. I go through the drive thru and he went inside. I pull up to the window and here is where it gets funny. He has a conversation with a worker there.

Him...Hey is that an Evo

Worker...Yeah, hes a regular here

Him...Isnt that car AWD

Worker...Yeah

Him...I thought they were supposed to be slow from a roll

Worker...I dont know

Him...Hell no he kicked my ass

Anyways I was just sitting there laughing to myself, and he was just still talking about it as I got my food and drove off. LOL, anyways I thought it was funny

Its like comparing an S2000 to a Masser 3200 or to a Jag XKR. An STI and Evo are nearly up with these. I think people wrongly beleive that because the Scoobs & Mitzos are relatively cheap they cannot be into rich mans car territory

In a straight line the STI is faster the only thing that makes a AWD car slower then a RWD car is that the AWD has more drivetrain lose then a RWD.
I don't know the WHP #s on a STI but it has about 18-22% drive train lose compared to 15% RWD.

These are of course ballpark numbers but it is a very real and a proven concept.

Personally I would rather race a STI on the Track (road racing) then in a straight line.

I currently own a 2003 VW GTI 1.8T with some mods which give me 195 WHP and 210 WTQ (going to get a S2000 soon ) I raced @ streets of willow and yes the STI was faster then me but not by a whole lot most of the time the only chance it had to pass me was on the straight. AWD vs FWD in corners makes a difference. He had a lot better traction on corner exits etc.
You would have a very good chance on a road racing track. actually I think you beat a STI (if you are a good driver). In a straight line I wouldn't know since no one has ever let me push an S really hard.

Anyways good luck and post the vid.

i completely agree with Quik S2K, I don't know why so many peopl complain about AWD cars not being able to pull after 100mph. My STi has no problems accelerating up top, I've only hit 110mph but it still had plenty left to go.

Your S might win, if the weather was in your favor. I'm still trying to redeem my loss over the summer to an 04, but then again it was hazy, hot and humid at the time we raced. Although a loss is a loss...

Well! Ya'll were right! The STi demolished me. I was never expecting it to be that quick. Now here are the details:

From a 35mph roll we went up to around 90mph, everytime he'd shift I'd pull ahead by a little and then he'd just reel me back in. I lost to him by around half a car length that time.

From a 55mph roll I pulled ahead up to around 70 when he started reeling me in again at around 70 (damn turbo'd cars!!).

Then the last one was from 70, he got me by a carlength and then just kept pulling on and on and onnnnnnn........ All I heard was the turbo spooling and his car pulling like crazy.

STi's get a new found respect from me

As for vids, we forgot our cameras, so I don't have any, but a friend of mine decided to join in on the race also (newer model mustang gt with muffler cutouts) and I got him by around a carlength from a roll cuz he was auto I believe.

All in all it was fun, but in the end, I'd still rather have my S than an STi

Oh and btw, I think the STi had an aftermarket exhaust.. it sorta looked like the amuse exhaust for the s2k because it had that blue-ish color around the tip and looked like a 3" tip to me.
