Sideways

Leaving the local meet this morning I was feeling a little frisky arriving at the first stop. I had just done a little to warm the tires. Casterdog was in front of me turning right and there was an M3 two lanes over in the left turn lane. I gave the S a couple quick revs and got the M3's attention. I'm bad taunting them that way. At the next light I see the M3 took the bait and turned right from the left turn lane. The green arrow for a left turn came on and Dog and I slowly proceeded allowing the M3 to catch up.

As soon as we get around the corner I see this big ass picknick table wing on what I thought was an Mitsubishi a couple cars ahead. He had been the first car in the turn lane and I didn't see him until after we turned. I have yet to run a EVO.

Now I am in a feeding frenzy and there is bait everywhere. I'm eyeballing the M3 behind me and checking out this other car at the same time. Hell, there was even a Ferrari CS going the other way.

At that point I see the gray car has huge racing tires in the rear to go with that giant wing. That's no EVO.

I looked a Casterdog and pointed at the gray car and he was smiling ear to ear and very actively shaking his head yes. Forget the M3. I hit the freeway ramp with the next victim and it turns out to be a very nicely done SRT Viper. It appeared to be a car he raced with aftermarket wide wheels, huge brakes, rollcage, race seats, CF everywhere, etc.

The Viper sees me in his rearview and goes into show off mode just as I'm stowing my cap under the seat. I can't seem to get my cap to stay on above third gear.

We quickly entered the freeway, he hits it and I follow suit. I got a little carried away and took it to 9400 in fifth and powered 6th for a second before I realized I had not even looked in the rearview mirror. Casterdog was almost out of sight and the M3 was back there too, somewhere. Between 60 and 150 or so I got to quickly check out his car from back to front. A few feet in third, a car length in 4th, a half length more in 5th, and 6th was pulling too. It was a very good run. At that point we both backed out of it.

He stayed in back for several miles and then pulled up and waved.

He wasn't at the meet and I have never seen the car before. There was a Viper gathering at California Speedway today for drag racing.

Just a thought sideways......spend a few hundred bucks and get a camera mount and camera. I read every post you do, and i have full faith in your stories....but i cant take the anxiety anymore!
