McLaren 12c kicked my #$%#
So, my car is currently at 407RWHP and it's fairly quick. But, not supercar quick. Anyway, we had a 3 way rolling start drag race at the airport today. (private strip)
My car is a 2004 Inline Pro Stage 1, 19 pounds boost. 3.63 rear gears, AEM ECM.
Mike's car is a 2014 Mclaren 12c with the 619HP engine and I believe a bit of a tune... It's a all carbon, twin turbo V8 with a 7 speed instant shift transmission. (ohhh, ohhhh, ohhhh, ohhhh it's nice) The roiling heat coming out of the back of that thing as he pulled away was visually impressive.
Franks car is a 2011 Porsche Speedster with the 408 HP normally aspirated flat six and 7 speed automatic type transmission. (I have it on good authority that he paid well North of $200K for this car! )
Well, the McLaren left me for dust. The rolling start would have been closer but I spun all the way through 2nd gear, I did the best I could with that. After shifting to third, I kept up a little better, maybe.... We let off at about 160MPH. I'd say he was 400 feet ahead of me.
That Speedster was not so speedy. He dropped back behind me about as badly as the McLaren beat me. And I know he had traction with all that weight in the back. Kind of sad for a $200,000+++++++ sports car.
Oh, did I mention, that McLaren is stinking fast. I would clearly need 600+ HP and superb traction simply to have a chance at being close. The S2000 really is not that tractable a car, so 700++ would probably be necessary to beat it, and even then, I'd need a drag car setup, and I'm a road race type guy.
The other thing I noticed is that my stock brakes and rotors were quite blued from the 160MPH stop at the end of the runway. I don't think they are up to the task of hauling down a turbocharged S2000 from near it's top speed. My car was still pulling quite well at that speed and I'm sure would have gone considerably faster if we had the room.
If nothing else, it was fun to actually drive the car like that. It did very well and I'm pleased. I put the top up, even though it was a perfect morning here. I think that was a good choice because I'm sure the McLaren was kicking up all sorts of sand at the speeds he was going.

From time to time, we race ridiculous stuff here. From Go-Kart vs. Corvettes and My KTM 380 2 stroke dirt bike vs Mustangs. It's always fun to test stuff without restrictions and without any significant risk.
I did some dirt bike pipe testing and was able to video and time my acceleration in 5th gear. With the video on the digital tach. It was interesting to see the incredible differences in mid range torque of the Gnarly pipe.
Anyway, I had fun. Looking forward to doing it again on the 4th of July.

I can't wait to get my car boosted this spring. I will also be attending a roll race event called "no fly zone" in my local city. And hopefully shift sector!
Nice run man bro! They have expensive cars lol

A good 550whp would more than keep up with the mclaren. You need a good tubular manifold and run e85 and bingo you have a monster. I freight trained a c6 zo6 from 60 to 140

You should race a C6 Z06 at your power level and report on your findings

McLarens are no joke; definitely in a different class than a z06. Stock 12c vs. 547whp z06 below and beats him very handily. They have the same thing going for them that the GTR does, which is that they make the best of every last bit of HP with slick shifting, traction, refinement, and broad powerbands.

Yep the Maclaren is one of my favorite cars, and is a beast. The last few races in that video were all very close.
All I wanted to say to OP is that a 550whp+ S would at least hang with that car. His log manifold with 3.63 gearing would get destroyed by a stock Z06. Not sure what fuel he is running or if he has low compression pistons etc but that is a lot of boost for 400whp.
