Who would win? My friend is thinking of getting a 98 M3 and is starting to talk smack. The funny thing is, is that I love M3's and I was going to get one, but then decided against it and went ahead and got the S2000. So, I'm not really knocking the M3 in anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience in racing M3's and how they did....before my friend and I go out for a race. Personally, I think it will be a tight race...can somebody tell me otherwise??

The S2000 is capable of beating an E36 model M3. It it were a E46 --> "forget about it!" I've raced 2 E36 M3's and confidently beat them on multiple runs. However, the M3 can win as well if you don't have a good launch.

If you don't know how to dump that clutch from 7k-7.5k RPM's and take off well, you could get your ass handed to you. This is one matchup where driver skill is extremely important.

I love M3's too, I never had the chance to race an E36 M3 with my S 2000, but I used to have a silver 98 coupe and I can tell you that you shouldn't have a problem beating your friend.

SSIS2000,

I would have to say that this one is going to be up to the capability of the drivers.

I raced a 99' M3 Coupe that had a Dinan cold air intake and a ECU software upgrade. 5 good drag races from the stop light, he won 3, and I won 2.

It was really close though...the win was determined by who gets the better launch. But, I was racing on my 18's so there was a slight disadvantage on my part.

S2000 WILL WIN. I recently was on an Audi S4 tour, and there was an E36 m3 right in front of me. he kept slowing down to get space between us and the pack. Then he would try to take off and lose me. I pulled pretty hard on him...had to lay off the throttle to not eat his ///M3 symbol.

I'd have to say it's all in the driver.

Last night my friend with a '95 stock M3 beat a Stock S2000 by only about 1/2 car length. Same night when the Turbo Upgrade S4 (S4/TTr Driver) raced the SC'D S2000 (SCS2000). Fun night.

Some of you have been the victim of too much S2k exhaust fume inhalation. Broad proclamations of the S2k winning are bogus.

Having owned both cars, it all comes down to driver, with a slight edge to the M3 since it is easier to launch. My 97 M3 puts down 215.5 hp and 217.4 ft lbs stock. It runs the 1/4 in 14 flat. Last I knew, 14 flat would be considered a damn good time for an s2k (with the exception for Sev).

The one who makes the fewest mistakes will win.

The driver will decide. Both are fun cars.
