S2K vs EVO9
That does make sense but I usually take that stuff into consideration. I'm not trying to do a 120+ race with an evo, usually it's a 50-120 or so. It's just that when I race a 114 mph car I usually expect it be a certain distance away.
Don't get me wrong either, I do like Evo's. Infact, i'm trying to talk my brother into get an Evo 9 RS and throw a stereo into it. He says he wants to stick to a 4 door car for work and such. We'll see how that goes though.

Blah just get a GT3076 turbo and it will solve all this top end problem blah blah talk on evo's. Put some C16 gas and up the boost 500-600whp is just around the ball park.

a 114mph Evo compared to another car that traps 114 but has better aero and gearing will be slower....the Evo's kind of an exceptional car in that it is such a brick haha (dont know how else to put it)....the higher speed it travels the tougher it is to get it moving. i think most 114mph cars you run dont have such crappy Cd as the Evo, hence your expectation.
most guys dragging the Evo has issues with higher trap speeds due to aero too....once we get up there we basically have an invisible wall to pull through...

good thing it's not difficult to extract big power from the Evo...so the issue with stock top end power isnt' really that serious imho.

AMS just came out with results of 280/272 cosworth cams....didnt gain much peak, but the entire curve was lifted for more area under the curve. dont know if it's worth the money to you, but more people are coming out with results...pretty exciting for us.

awd does NOT equal slow top end. slow top end for Evo/STi is due to brick-like aerodynamics (coefficient of drag of around the .38 area) and top end gearing. the Evo/STi are rally inspired which means it was designed for rapid acceleration under 120mph...thus the aggressive low end gearings.

you'll lose man. more importantly though remember that you (hopefully) didn't buy the s because it was the best bang for the buck in a straight line. if that were the case you would have an 88 mustang with a supercharger which would eat everyone alive.
evo's are just faster no doubt about it but come on - it is a lancer...that's always a nice comeback to anything he has to say.
