Default 04+ clutch slave cylinder thing

I've read a number of posts discussing the 04 slave cylinder and how it effects the shift characteristics of the 04+ models.

My question is, how much of a problem is this really? Am I going to smoke my clutch every time I drive my car hard and shift fast at redline? Surely Honda would not have designed this to be such a problem?

btw, my car is in storage for the winter, and I literally have not driven the car hard since I purchased it. So I have no idea what effect this slave cylinder problem has.... but I'm starting to worry after reading numerous posts about this. I owned a MY01 previously

help me.

Everything is relative and different to different people so only you will be able to say for yourself. I have an '04 and am planning on swapping out to the pre '04 cylinder after the weather warms up sometime this spring. For me it's only an issue when really slamming shifts hard at redline. Otherwise it's a non-issue. If the cylinder weren't so inexpensive I would not even likely pursue it. But since it is, I will be happy to have a more positive feeling clutch that doesn't slip at all.

I believe this new delay valve does more harm than good, to the clutch at least. The '04+ diff has been strengthened, so I don't think there will be any problems there. When "power shifting" at high RPM, it's just slipping the clutch, causing unnecessary heat buildup and wear on both the clutch disk and flywheel, which can later lead to a warped flywheel. Not good. As long as you're not dumping the clutch at 6000 RPM, which anyway you look at it is a bad thing for many drivetrain components, going with the older slave cylinder won't hurt a thing and make shifts more solid.

I find it to be annoying enough that I plan to swap it out.

If I didn't plan on participating in track days and auto x, I'd simply live with it.

Depending on how brave I feel, I plan on doing the swap this Friday. My only worries are 1) Access to the part - I only have a couple smallish jackstands, and 2) Cutting that pin thing to proper size. I don't have anything currently to do that with, and I'm not sure what would be best to use. Anybody have any advice?

Did the swap on my last 04 and plan to do it on my 05 very soon as I made sure to take that part off. It's only about $50 at hardtopguy.com and adds more feedback to the pedal, plus it's more responsive. Very simple swap to do that can be done at home if you know how to bleed the clutch.

Hey Cyclon36, what about the pin on the fluid line? My understanding is that the '04's pin is to long for the '03 slave cylinder. What'd you use to cut it back?

This topic hits home for me.........

I've become more and more annoyed with the delay. It's gotten to the point I freaking hate it!!

How does the modification effect warranties?

Someone please perform this mod with pics and a write up so the rest of us 04-05's can resolve this issue ASAP!

I understand the only problem is that the fitting needs to be ground down about 1/4" to fit the older valve.
