I am looking to purchase a used s2000. Are there any significant advantages to the 2006 model that I should know about? Which was the more reliable model?

 

I like cable over DBW and I dont care for traction control, so I would go with the 2005.

 

Aiming to get a 04-05 GPW around the end of this year. DBW = no good (in my opinion)

 

06+ models are for those who can't drive

 

Thanks! This pretty much confirms my suspicions. I drove a 2005 the other day and had a blast. I don't want to dilute the experience with electrical assistance.

As a MY00 owner, my opinions is that there's less than 1% difference between 05 and 06 models.

I drove a DBW equipped CR and could detect zero difference with my cable-activated car. Also, VSA and TC can be disabled. IOW, I'd say that those features on the newer cars have absolutely zero impact on the "experience" of an S2000. The suspension, gearing and low redline of the F22 are much greater factors.

 

I wouldn't make that assumption without driving an '06+ first. I've never driven one so I don't know the difference.

 

rule of thumb is that you should buy the newest car you can afford. that being said, regardless of how good of a driver you are, traction control can be a lifesaver especially if you plan on driving the car in bad weather.

 

i had an '05 and now i drive an '07 which is the same as the '06

id choose the '05 over the '07. the '05 feels more sensitive on the throttle. if youre buying your first rwd car and if youre looking for a little more safety and a little more convenience, choose the '07. i havent needed vsa yet but if i had it on the '05, along with a little more sense, id still have the '05.
