4.56 Gear Question
 

Is there a reliable chain that you would trust to install the gears (ie aamco, etc). I have a feeling the dealer will charge an arm and a leg, and I don't really want to drive out to Hardtopguy. Any recommendations?

I would recommend you find a shop that has extensive experience in doing truck rear ends, particularly old Dodge or Ford rear ends as they are similar to our own. You should also provide them with the specs that Richmond Gear recommends and also copies of pages out of the Helm manual for all the specs they'll need. Of course, for the 4.57, Richmond specs supercede the ones given in the Helm. Also, the shop will need to have access to the crush sleeves and shims they'll need to finish the job, not to mention other Honda parts. These are not always "off the shelf" parts and some planning may be in order.

If you haven't already, check your local sub-forum here on s2ki and see if any local members can recommend anyplace. It is a fairly specialized job and I would not want to let just anyone attempt it unless you can get somone to vouch for their work in the past.

Perhaps consider buying the complete diff package from Ricks with the gears already installed so it is more bolt and go if you can't find a reputable shop to do the install. Even if price was not an issue, I really don't think I'd trust a dealer to do it either unless someone could vouch for their service department.

Take the car to him, go see the Rock and Roll hall of fame, and when you are done, your car will be too.
