Hmm... some of it seems to make sense.. but I'm not buying it.. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the S2000 was only ever intended to be produced for 10 years and that they stopped because of that reason alone. Can anyone confirm that?

Production numbers started to fall due to demand by the looks of it.

Still looking for that "1" 2009 GPW CR, literally a unicorn car.

Our InternetBrands overlords might want to lay off the "curated content" -- not a fan -- and certainly not what makes this site great.

I doubt there are enough guys with months and thousands of miles on the AP1 and AP2 to draw any conclusions regarding which is best. Preferring the "raw" handling of an AP1 (pre-face lift) always seems like sour grapes to me although there are sure to be some who can legitimately say that. I don't see any AP2 cars retrofitted to AP1 styling but plenty of AP1 cars upgraded to AP2 appearance. So much for preferring the early styling.

Plus - it seems that ap2 versions command somewhat higher prices that are not fully explained simply by the age of the cars. I suspect if you did a poll more folks would vote for ap2 over ap1. But, there would be a significant number of ap1 votes as well.

I would never claim to know which is "best." Still, I know what I like and its MY 02 and 03. As far as styling goes - frankly both cars are gorgeous to my eye., I do like the ap2 headlights better!

The bottom line I think is that all the s2k models, every single year, are great cars. I don't buy the notion that the changes made in ap2 years were responsible for the demise of the car. I suspect that the downturn in the economy, combined with the strong competition from Miata for sales to a big swath of the population probably did it in. We s2k owners often talk about the stock Miata as a somewhat lessor sports car from a performance standpoint. Honda could have made more changes in the car to compete better with the Miata. They clearly chose not to go down that road. It was probably a good business decision. We s2k owners are the beneficiaries of that decision in a way. Our cars are no longer manufactured and that gives them a certain cachet that few cars in the marketplace, including the Miata, possess. The s2k is unique. I love my s2k.
