Default Advice on an 04 AP2 S2000 - High Miles

Hi everyone,

I'm in the market for an AP2 S2000, and I came across this 04 Rio Yellow nearby that immediately caught my eye... except it has nearly 115,000 miles.

The price is enticing around $13k, and there's a chance the dealer might write me a check for my trade-in too!

The dealer said that an elderly person traded it in on a Jetta, and from what I can tell from the pictures sent by the sales guy, it doesn't look modified.

I'm going to bring the checklist from the "What to look for when buying a used S2000" sticky at the top of this forum, but will appreciate any advice you all might have for me as well. Really excited about getting into a S!

Here are some of the pictures sent by the dealership (excuse the quality).

$13k for an 04 with over 100k seems kinda high. How much do s2ks go around your area?

Don't have many AP2 S2Ks beyond 100k in mileage around here, but the lowest on autotrader within 50 miles show an 04/80k/$14k and an 06/73k/$15k.

What you be willing to pay for a car in that condition?

13K seems rather high for something with 115K miles. I paid 19K for my 04 with 21,000 miles. I've had another 03 in my area for $18K when I was looking. Don't be in a rush and keep your eyes on the forum for good buys here. Honda's are reliable but at 115,000 miles you're starting to look at a lot of wear.

Find a service records, transmission fluid and the differential are one of those that are often overlooked to change. With the s2k, it should be done every 2 years if not every year.

Beyond the regular checks (slipping clutch, smooth power delivery, etc), check to make sure the gears shift easily across all gears.

Just hit 100k today in my 04 s and mine runs like a dream. The price does seem really high.
Also, why is it missing the spark plug cover?

I have no idea, that's the first thing that caught my eye when I saw the engine bay picture. Why would one have to remove the cover in the first place?

So according to ClearBook, an 04 S2K w/115k miles is worth $12k.
Realistically, what is a good deal for this car?

It really depends on how well the car was maintained. There could certainly be a lot of wear with far less miles and vice versa.

To replace the spark plugs.

Seems a little high. The carpet and seats (from what I can see of them anyway) appear to be in pretty good shape though, so that's a good sign. I bought an 04 this year, paid a little over 16 but it only had 28K miles.

Personally I'd hold out and look for something from a private seller - but I know how it feels when an S is actually within your grasp and you really want it.
