I love the idea. I would use the LS2 drivetrain out of a smacked up GTO, and one of rear diff conversions from Inline Pro. With an LS you get extra 160 horsepower, 240 foot pounds of torque, for only a few extra pounds, I would take it. The better gas mileage wouldn't be bad either. Then I would put the F20 into Lotus Seven kit car or something.

The weight of the engines might be similiar, but remember the engines are different sizes. The F20C is crammed up against the firewall to keep the weight towards the center of the car. That V8 is gonna move some of the weight closer towards the nose of the car. Its the same way on the LSx converted RX7s. Similiar weight as a rotary, but more of it is moved up front. That being said, in all reality you'd have to be a dedicated track driver to really notice the difference probably.

^ exactly. Not to mention it's WAY WAY WAY more reliable than that horrendous 13B, and more fuel efficient to boot.
An LS S2000 (LS2000?) will not "ruin" the car by any means, nor will it make it a 1/4-mile-only monster.
I believe it can be placed far enough back in the bay with the right know-how, but I also think we can afford to get over the 50/50 dist thing. Sure, it sounds nice, but there's plenty of very successful cars without it. I can live with a few percent difference, and I'm sure everyone else can too.
It's also a minute difference in weight, when it's all said and done, much less than a passenger. (out of curiousity, does anyone have an average weight for a turbo/super kit with FMIC?)
Don't get me wrong, I think the F motors are exhilarating and efficient, but I can't deny I'd like some real honest-to-god grunt. Unless you're a turbo maniac, most of those kit will barely get you the horsepower of one of these motors, and almost definitely not the torque. (Not to mention what I/H/E does on the LS) All that with the reliability of stock motor. Works for me!

A V8 isn't really any longer than an inline 4. If it were in inline 6 out of an M3 or Supra the weight shift may actually occur but the V8 might actually help. They tend to actually be shorter with the right oil pan or the dry sump of the LS7. The weight changes would be negligible, it is the width. If the engine bay is wide enough to hold the LS and allow the headers to clear I don't see any issues.
