Anyone else have wear holes in their top?

i got my 'o2 at 18,000mi and the top already was ripped at the normal spot. but because it was 3 years old, i assumed for a long time that convertible tops were only good for 3 years, then needed replacement. part of the charm of owning a convertible. now it's got like three splits in the top, and those "shiny" spots. now that i'm getting ready to replace the top, how can i be sure to won't happen in 10,000mi? or even sooner?

My 2003 has a tear on the passenger side and one forming on the drivers side. The passenger side isnt 100% torn through, there appears to be some material left hanging on, but its letting sun through. Not even 30k miles on the odometer. However, being an 03, the warranty has expired.

Has anyone successfully patched their top? I guess thats my only option since the car isnt under warranty.

we just had our top replaced yesterday-and the upholsterer who did it put 1 patch on each side where it had torn before like an extra wear layer. it is so good you can't even see it. talk to a good upholsterer you'll be amazed
