I was searching the net for intakes for the S2000. found this intresting forum with the most interesting discussions. I just read the pyhsics of intake post by tenblade it was very enlightening.

With the risk of making a fool of my self i just want share my idea. I don't know if anyone has done it before. I'm might replace my current jury rig intake.

This is what i did:
-drilled 7ea 7/8" dia hole on the fwd part of an Extra (did want to mess the original) stock intake lid
-on each hole i inserted tubing ranging from 3/4" to 1-1/2" long. the aft end of the tubes are cut crooked on purpose.
-install an aluminum plate to keep the air from the radiator away. (should have use plastic)

The results - may be psycological but to me it feels better.
best way to describe is to do a comparison:
-stock intake sound- vooommmmm(vtec)VHMMMMMMMMMMM
-stock intake sound with cover(lid) removed completely- wooOOhhhhhhhaaaaaaa(Vtec)WHAAAAAAAAA
-my intake- gorrrrrrrrrrr(vtec)GHRRRRRRRRRR
Note: pay special attention the the number of "o"s.

the best part of is i can always go back to the stock lid!

here are pictures:

It may sound better, I agree.
Have in mind that the stock intake box is designed to work with specific air amount.
What you did is the step before you take the whole intake cover off which is proven to be a power loss.

Instead of seeking new ways for better performance from intake why dont you change your stock air filter with i.e a JR one (its the most inexpensive way to get 2-3 HP)
If you intend to go further try a Cold Air Intake like Comptech, Spoon....etc etc

That's pretty creative, Backyard.

FYI, be careful if/when you wash under the hood or drive in heavy rain to plug the holes (or put back your stock cover).

I wash the engine compartment occasionally. The stock cover has a separate compartment which'll pretty much catch any water that gets in the intake hole (best bet is to plug that too). Without that compartment, you'll surely get water from the spray hose on the filter element, which you probably want to avoid.

aris, i read a magazine articale which installs a comptech airfilter, when they removed the cover the horsepower and torque increased. i think the power loss you are talking about is due to the hot air being sucked in straight from the engine bay. I can feel that bogging when i removed the cover.

but my intake, gets air form the same location as the stock intake. There should not be any loss of power, if any a slight un-noticable gain. But is sounds way better then stock.

Chazmo, thanks for the advice. I was thinkin of doing that soon.

backyard,
good sound f/x.
you got a point, i would rather have my car
GRRRRRRRRRRR'ing (Growling)
instead of
WAAAAAAAAAAA'ing (Crying)

Might do that if i find an extra intake lid, it makes sense.
